Behind Pura Vida Scents
Pura Vida Scents is a small business built at home by husband and wife, Kattia and Anthony. Kattia is from Costa Rica, and the beauty and spirit of her home country shape the heart of our brand. We want each candle to bring a little of that warmth and ease into your home.
We are both co-owners, and we both care deeply about living well and making thoughtful choices for our home and the environment. Anthony leads candle production and helps manage the many moving parts of the business, from materials to the finished product. Together, we choose our fragrances, develop our candles, and keep improving what we make.
For us, pura vida is a reminder to slow down and enjoy the moments that matter: time with family, a welcoming home, and a little peace at the end of a long day. That's the feeling we hope you find whenever you light one of our candles.

Candle Care
A few habits get the most out of every candle and keep it burning safely.
What's in the jar
- 12 oz of soy wax
- Two wood wicks
- Hand-poured by Kattia and Anthony
The first burn
Let the melted wax reach the edges of the jar before you blow it out. This sets an even melt for every burn after it and keeps the candle from tunneling.
Trim both wicks
Before each burn, trim both wood wicks to about 1/8 inch and brush away any charred bits. A short wick gives a steadier flame and less soot.
Burn safely
- Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep it in sight.
- Keep it away from drafts, children, pets, and anything that can catch fire.
- Set it on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
- Burn no more than 4 hours at a time.
- Stop using the candle when about 1/2 inch of wax remains.
- The jar gets hot. Let it cool before moving it.

How ordering works
When you place an order on this site, we set your candles aside and email you a payment link from JIM. Your order is confirmed once that payment goes through. Nothing is charged when you submit the order form.
Please pay within 48 hours of receiving your payment link. If we don't receive payment by then, we may cancel the order and release the candles.
Prices and limits
Prices are in U.S. dollars and can change, but the total in your payment link is the price you pay. Online orders have a limit per scent and per order. For larger orders, email us.
Pickup and shipping
Pickup orders are held for you at the market you choose. Shipped orders go out after payment. Shipping is shown at checkout or added to your payment link. Soy wax can soften in heat, so in warm weather we may ship early in the week or hold a shipment until it's safe to send.
Problems with an order
If something is wrong with your order or a candle arrives damaged, email us at puravidascents@gmail.com with your order number and a photo, and we'll work it out with you.
Candle safety
Follow the warning label on every jar and the guidance on our Candle Care page. Never leave a burning candle unattended.

What we collect
Only what you type into the order form: your name, phone number, email, the candles you choose, pickup or shipping choice, your shipping address if you choose shipping, and any notes.
How we use it
To fill your order: to email your payment link and order updates, set your candles aside, ship them or hand them to you at a market, and answer your questions. We don't sell your information, share it for advertising, or add you to a mailing list.
Who handles it
- Formspree delivers your order form to our email, and Netlify keeps a backup copy. Only the two of us see your order.
- JIM processes your payment through the link we send. We never see or store your full card number.
- Shipping carriers receive your name and address if your order ships.
- Netlify also hosts this website, and Google Fonts supplies its fonts. Like most websites, they may log basic technical details such as your IP address.
Cookies and tracking
This site doesn't use cookies, analytics or ad tracking. Your cart is saved only in your own browser so it's still there if you come back, and you can clear it anytime by clearing your browser data.
How long we keep it
We keep order records as long as we need them to run the business and for our tax records.
